AE2O-Associação para a Educação de Segunda Oportunidade

AE2O is a nonprofit organization promoting second chance education for disadvantaged young people aged 15 to 25 who dropped out of school due to social, emotional, or family difficulties. It runs the Second Chance School of Matosinhos (E2OM), the first of its kind in Portugal since 2008 and a member of the E2C-Europe network. The school provides a positive, art-based curriculum and holistic education, helping students develop Individual Training Plans that combine academic certifications, vocational training, and personal and social skills. AE2O supports the recognition and validation of competences and offers a pathway to 6th, 9th, or 12th-grade equivalencies. Its success has inspired similar initiatives across Portugal, leading to the creation of a national network and legal framework in 2019. AE2O also engages in international projects, youth exchanges, and training courses, leveraging arts and creativity to foster social inclusion and personal development for vulnerable youth.
